Are You Pondering What I’m Pondering?

The Master Cleanse July 5, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — glamourcliche @ 6:25 pm

Kristen and I have decided to do The Master Cleanse.   Starting today Sunday, July 5th, I am on a liquid diet, and not the fun kind!   However, but July 15th, I should be 10 pounds lighter!

Day One

Today I weighed in at 124.6 lbs.     The goal is 114.6 lbs. by July 15th.
2:24 PM – The AM was rough, because I was slightly hungover from the night before.   And by “slightly,” I mean “very.”   I cheated and had a lowfat yogurt (90 cals… not so bad).    I think I might have a piece of fruit or a yogurt in the morning to jumpstart my metabolism & make me stick with the program.   The lemonade itself is ok, but the cayenne pepper makes it a little spicy & my stomach’s already messed up from being hungover.   ick.

That’s what I want… June 13, 2009

$o, today @ the club, a guy tipped me $40 to walk up to his wife on the dance floor (20 feet away) and wish her a Happy Birthday.   Life is good.

Also, the city-wide yard sale (aka holy grail of bargain hunting) is tomorrow.   Wish me luck!

OK – PREFACE – This is totally stolen from another blog – in fact, one of my links on the right hand side of this page. (She’s a Jerk But She’s Right -http://shesajerkbutshesright.wordpress.com/).   She’s not a jerk, but this totally awesome girl who kicks ass in her spare time.   Anywho, this was too good not to spread around the internet like wildfire:

KICKASS NEW GAME:

“1 – Go to “wikipedia.” Hit “random” or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 – Go to “Random quotations” or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3 The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

3 – Go to flickr and click on “explore the last seven days” or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4 – Use photoshop or similar to put it all together.”

My result:

cd

Fun times!
Try it & post your results!

MIA for a bit June 27, 2008

Hey guys,

This weekend is going to be a little more than crazy for me!  I’ve got three shows of the Graduate (come see it!!!), I’m working, trying to get my dirtbike fixed and I’m moving into a new apartment.   Not sure about the wireless situation there yet… So, basically, if I drop off the face of the planet for a while and don’t respond to your emails, etc. bear with me, eventually I’ll resurface and be social again.   If it’s really important, call me :)

Beauty on a Budget – Garage Sale Mayhem! June 16, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — glamourcliche @ 4:06 am

Frank, one of our “regulars,” at the bar, came in the other day and told me about a truly amazing thing: a neighborhood garage sale, in a neighboring town. Every year, the entire town hauls all the crap they no longer want out of their basement and puts it on their lawn. Garage sales, church sales, sales to support softball teams, you name it, they had it. For someone going from a fully furnished house to an unfurnished studio, this was like… Mecca. It was official. I had found the holy grail of twenty somethings moving into their first studio apartment. Everywhere you turned, there was something interesting. People were practically giving things away because they no longer wanted to look at them and they wanted the extra space in their basement. It was pure craziness. Here are some (no, not all) of my favorite buys for my new apartment & their stories. Presenting…. a photo gallery of my yard sale finds. Brought to you by the number 3, my digital camera and my mom, who loves this shit (pardon my french) but is in Jersey at the moment and cannot see it in person.

$5.00 – Crystal decanter and goblet set, circa 1930s. The tray it’s sitting on was purchased with the set.
Oddly enough, I bought the same exact tray in a smaller size (it’s nesting inside the bigger tray) at
another garage sale that day. I also bought 4 extra goblets of the same make/print at another sale that day.

Fabulous little chair I bought for $15 from some Skidmore alumns who were
moving to Kansas. Mint condition and soooo comfy. They were the nicest people too.

Crystal punch bowl set with about 10 punch cups & ladle. 50 cents. The elderly woman who sold
it to me was like “I have this nice punch bowl, but kids your age don’t entertain anymore, do they?”
She was really sweet and practically begged me to take it off her porch. Crazy, right? How pretty is that?

$20. Not bad for a tv for my bedroom!

$2 – vintage hamper like the one my grandma had in the 40s

HP Scanner, 2 years old, $2. They said it works, but if it doesn’t connect
to my computer, hey – it was $2!

Funky lamp – $2

Nice classical centerpiece – $2

The three lamps in the middle: free, $2 and free
The green one on the left is going to look gorgeous with a neutral beaded lampshade

Wine rack and candle $2 and $1

Puzzles for my mom 50 cents each

$8.00 – An original RCA Victor record player, circa 1935
Hollowed out in the back with shelves, opens in the front.
The girl I bought this for had the same idea I had when she saw it: use it as an entertainment center!
I hate apartments with a vintage theme that have exposed modern stuff everywhere you turn,
most noticeably, the television. It just throws everything out of whack. It should be camoflagued
when not in use, if you ask me. Or, proudly displayed if you have a “modern” apartment. I think huge flat screens look amazing in apartments furnished with white walls, stainless steel and black furniture, etc. However, if you’re going for a classic, older look, let’s hide the modern stuff :)
I love the inlays on this. So pretty.

$5.00 – working, mint condition microwave. Clean as a whistle! Looks like it was used once!
Even has the protective plastic still on the area with the buttons on the left!

Little hand carved table $2.00 – I think I’ll put a few indoor plants on top :)

1970s magazine rack – 50 cents

Folding screen – $3 – I’m going to paint it and staple gun material in it
& transform it into an antique-y changing screen for my bedroom

$3 – Coat rack and $10 for my queen sized headboard & bed frame
Also bought the Five People You Meet in Heaven on DVD for 50 cents and
yet another copy of the Batman Forever soundtack on cd for 50 cents as well (it’s my fav and I
always lose it! I think I’ve bought a total of 5 copies…. but I digress) from these folks.

I also bought some gorgeous vintage burgundy draperies, totally cute beveled curtain rods, some costume jewelry from the 1940s-1950s, a belt, a super cute 70s fondue set (with color coded fondue sticks!), some candles and a bunch of other cute things :) I’m such a happy camper. I can’t wait to see how it looks when I finally pull everything together in my new place!

Getting my shit together June 10, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — glamourcliche @ 1:49 pm

I know I haven’t written anything in a while, so here’s a quick update.

Business at the restaurant is picking up, so that’s great. A little stressful at times, but great.

The Graduate (the play I’m doing with the Local Actors Guild of Saratoga) is going well. We had our 2nd rehearsal and I felt that we accomplished a lot. The drunk scene with Elaine and Mrs. Robinson was cut (thank God!), so I don’t have to worry about trying to act, rolling around on the floor, sluring my words and crying simultaneously. Phew. I’m off-book for one tiny, itty bitty scene, plus I think I’ve got the bar scene down pat. Now I just have to work on the wedding scene and the college scene and I’ll be good as far as lines. As far as the rest… I feel I have to go back and reread some of my Stanislavsky and Anne Bogart stuff and brush up on my technique.

The apartment search is over! I found a great new apartment, right downtown that suits my purposes. It’s a one bedroom with an exorbitant price tag, but it’s totally do-able. I plan to pay off all of my credit cards this summer and really save. Plus, I’ll be living in an apartment with hip people all in their 20s – early 30s. My plan is to furnish it with Victorian antiques. I want it to be 1920’s – 1930’s with a heavy Victorian influence. I’m all excited to go to antique actions so I can buy stuff like this:

I also want to get a cute vintage chandelier. It’s going to be so classic! Yay!

I also recently got a new computer, because my old one decided to die and not turn back on. Awesome, right? So, instead of getting the mac that I’ve been craving, I opted for a $570 gateway laptop. It’s actually really nice. It’s fast, has a killer memory (250gigs), has wireless and can play and burn cds and dvds. I pretty much love it. I just wish it was another color. Dark blue is so bleh.

Plus, I’m really getting back into vintage movies. A few days ago I watched Casablanca (LOVE that movie!) and last night I watched the Maltese Falcon. I don’t know how I feel about the latter. Good film, but I like Key Largo a lot better.

Well, it’s getting late & I’ve got a long day ahead of me tomorrow…
Nite!
